Meet Jown!

Jonette May Manalo, or simply Jown within her circles, graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Journalism from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2024.

 

As someone who is deeply immersed in the world of journalism, her passion lies in writing stories that shed light on crucial topics like education, health, community, and politics. She does not only thrive as a journalist, but also offers her adeptness for commissioned writing within her areas of expertise.

Jown's journey includes an impactful stint as a News Intern at Rappler, where she navigated and covered the intricate landscape of Malacañang and the 19th Congress. 

 

She also interned with ABS-CBN News under TV Patrol, where she honed her skills in segment production, floor direction, live coordination, scriptwriting, shooting, and editing. During her internship, she wrote and produced a story for TV Patrol's "Winning Moment" segment, hosted by Winnie Cordero.

 

As a News Writer for Tinig ng Plaridel, her college's official student publication, she contributed her insights to its vibrant tapestry. Her portfolio boasts a standout piece delving into the significance of Philippine History education within the nation.

Beyond the written word, Jown's versatility shines as a multiplatform host, having hosted over 50 diverse events, programs, radio shows, and podcasts. Notable highlights include Hiwaga and Elements for UP Fair 2024, Tuloy ang Tugtugan: A UP Fair 2023 Pre-Event Concert, UP Fair 2021: Awit Mo'y Paglaya, Elements 2022: Tuloy ang Awit, and the Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) Listening Party at SM City North EDSA.

Jown's talent extends beyond writing and hosting, as she serves as a voice talent to various organizations and advertisements. She remains open for collaborative ventures with brands and companies that align with her vision.

 

At present, she is a reporter for INQUIRER.net, covering a wide range of general assignment stories, including weather news, transportation, environment, education, consumer, PHIVOLCS, the Bureau of Fire Protection, crime, and other news updates.
